Description

English Workshop (Friday, September 20th 9:00-3:00)

The English workshop will focus on classroom triage and addressing common classroom struggles as we work through the first semester of full AB 705 implementation. There will be time to work with colleagues from other campuses to troubleshoot issues coming up in your own classroom. This workshop will include new activities not previously included in CAP Summer Institutes or 1-day workshops.

ESL Workshop (Friday, September 20th 9:00-3:00)

The ESL workshop will engage instructors in developing integrated reading-writing assignments for ESL classes across a range of skill levels, from high-beginning through advanced courses that transition students to transfer-level English. Participants will explore ways to select authentic texts; develop and scaffold meaningful, text-based prompts; and incorporate contextual, just-in-time language instruction. The presenters will also provide updates from the most recent meetings of the AB705 work group and resulting guidance regarding credit ESL program structure and placement practices.

Math Workshop (Saturday, September 21st 9:00-3:00)

How do we support students in the AB 705 math classroom, maintain rigor and cover all of the required content? CAP's fall math workshop will focus on new lesson planning strategies for teaching Precalculus and Statistics with corequisite support, as well as techniques for addressing common problems that arise in interactive classrooms. This workshop will include new activities led by facilitators experienced in high challenge, high support pedagogy.
